To keep it within manageable proportions, the curators of the seven departments &#8211; Architecture and Design, Drawings, Film, Media and Performance Art, Painting and Sculpture, Photography, Prints and Illustrated Books have selected 250 works that in their respective fields have left their mark on the past twenty-five years.<br \/>\nThe introductory essay by MoMA\u2019s director explains how from its very inception the museum has had to find a balance between its regard for yesterday\u2019s art and its commitment to the art of today and takes us on a journey of discovery through the always stimulating innovations that artists have introduced in their art in the firm belief that challenging equals expressive.
