IV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Photographs by Luigi Spina,\u00a0<\/em><em>T<\/em><em>ext by Vittorio Sgarbi<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The fourth and final volume of the photographic and editorial project\u00a0<em>Canova. Four Tempos<\/em>, dedicated to the plaster casts by Antonio Canova at the\u00a0<strong>Gypsotheca in Possagno (Italy),<\/strong> continues the investigation into the imperfect form: works that use pins to translate plaster works into marble, and as such an expression of genius in his making.<\/p>\n<p>Luigi Spina approaches the works in a completely new way, from mythological subjects to the faces of the patrons, from <em>Daedalus and Icarus<\/em>, a masterpiece of youth, to\u00a0<em>Adonis crowned by Venus<\/em>, unfinished and never translated into marble. From the eternal comparison between the sculpture of\u00a0<em>Hector<\/em>\u00a0in a dynamic pose and\u00a0<em>Ajax<\/em> about to draw his sword to the sensuality of Venus revealing herself as she emerges from her bath.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the volume takes a look at the commissioners: the sculpture of the little prince Heryk Lubominski dressed as Cupid with bow and quiver and the sculpture of Princess Leopoldina Esterh\u00e0zy Liechtenstein. The classical model, encapsulating harmony and perfection, is foremost in the sculptor\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luigi Spina<\/strong>, a photographer, has published several volumes with 5 Continents Editions, including\u00a0<em>The Buchner Boxes<\/em>\u00a0(2014),\u00a0<em>Hemba<\/em>\u00a0(2017), and\u00a0<em>Mythical Diary<\/em>\u00a0(2017), dedicated to the Farnese Collection. With the same publisher, he created the series \u201cHidden Treasures\u201d:\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Farnese Cup<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Alexander Mosaic<\/em>,\u00a0<em>San Domenico by Niccol\u00f2 dell\u2019Arca<\/em>,<em>\u00a0The Riace Bronzes<\/em>\u00a0(2022), and the large-scale photographic project\u00a0<em>Inside<\/em>\u00a0<em>Pompeii<\/em>\u00a0(2023).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vittorio Sgarbi<\/strong> is an art critic, exhibition organiser and collector in his own right, as well as the author of many books dedicated to great artists and the central role of art.
